Chapel of Maria

Just a short walk behind Karavostasi Beach Hotel is the Chapel of Maria. This small chapel is dedicated to Maria and is locally known as the Panayia tou kampou (Our Lady of the fields) is sometimes used for christenings and other special occassions. The Birth of Maria is celebrated at this chapel on the 8th of September.

As with all Orthodox churches, visitors make a cross as they walk into the church and it’s customary to take a candle and place a donation in the collection tray next to them. Then light the candle, make a cross, and pay hommage to the icons that are nearby, in this case that of Maria. It is well worth a visit. Ask at reception for more information.
